Retirement-My Time to smell the roses, see the mountains, backpack those places I've never seen

After 30+ years as a project manager, I've finally done it. My notice is in and I'll be turning a new page of my life. I find myself without responsibilities, with kids out of the nest. That's me with my kids on a hike on Mount Haleakala in Maui a few years back (see above) after watching the sun rise from above the clouds (Top left. I'll eventually figure out how to place these pictures where I want them.) I'm not one to rise at 4:00 am, but it was well worth it. A spectacular sunrise show and then explore the volcano. Grab the opportunity if you ever have the chance. Even my project baby, the ThunderHorse offshore platform (left) is at sea and on the level.

I'd always dreamed of travel. Not high dollar, long distance, how-much-do-I-tip-the-doorman travel, but back-to-nature travel. Backpacking, hiking, living with minimal baggage. Of course I've had some opportunities to smell the roses, but they were always just a quick trip, not a real opportunity to experience it.

So, after some research and visits to REI and BackCountry.com I've got my North Face Prophet 65. I've got my Kelty tent and sleeping bag. My MSR Pocket Rocket stove. I'm ready to take on the world. I'm starting with Palo Duro, Bridger-Teton, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. So, come along. Read, advise, befriend.
