Well, several have mentioned that even "Mundane Monthly" might be better than "No News is Good News". So, here you are, the latest edition of the Mundane Monthly.
In the last few weeks, I've been watching the sunsets and sunflowers, examples follow:
I've also been completing a few projects. For one, I've finally completed the soffits under the gable ends of the cabin. Since this was not really doing any harm, it had never been quite high enough on the to do list to get attention, despite my best intentions. Here are photos showing the before and after.
I've also been working down my supply of mesquite for cooking, toward the critical level, because my chainsaw gave me some problems last time I used it. So, I managed to get it running long enough to put up a reasonable supply.
While excavating my ladder and materials out from under the cabin for the soffit work, I did discover evidence that the snake I killed last year was part of a family that lives part of their life under the cabin, a shed snakeskin about 4 foot long.
Football season is finally here, at least the preseason version, so I've been journeying back and forth to Houston. On the last trip I dug my shotgun out of storage, determined to take advantage of a good supply of dove around the place. That began to pay dividends yesterday on the first day of the season. Just need to pick up some jalapenos and bacon for my first mess of dove on the grill.

I'm glad you finally posted some news. The soffit work looks great! I think the fit and finish look very professional.
The mesquite supply is looking pretty good. Seeing that wood reminds me of the steaks we had the last time we went hunting over at Tommy's place. Those were some of the best steaks I have ever had.
We've been enjoying some football games this past weekend. We just wish you were around to watch a few with us. :)
I'm currently working on a project right now that I think you'd like. I'm building a heat pump water heater that I hope to use to replace our electric resistance water heater or at least supplement the costly electric heater. Just another experiment to save a few pennies. I'm building it out of scavenged parts so it won't cost a dime to build.

Mesquite is hard to beat. In fact, I'll be heading down to Tommy's place for steaks and hunting again soon.
I'm glad to hear about your experimentation with a heat pump water heater. I've thought that was a great idea for a long time. Are you tieing it into your existing home heat pump or is it a separate unit? I'd love to hear more details. In fact, if you want to send me a writeup and pictures or diagrams I'll put it on my Energy Guru blog.

Sounds great man! I'll get you some photos and a short right up of the water heater. I thought I found a great lead from a scrapped swimming pool heat pump. However, the condenser breached and took on water causing the evaporator to blow out. Anyway, I'm back to building it from scratch but I have the parts I need. Anyway, I'll send you some good stuff soon.
